چکیده

We derive absolute perturbation bounds for the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of a n × n complex matrix. The bounds consist of elementary symmetric functions of singular values, and suggest that coefficients of normal matrices are better conditioned with regard to absolute perturbations than those of general matrices. When the matrix is Hermitian positivedefinite, the bounds can be expressed in terms of the coefficients themselves. We also improve absolute and relative perturbation bounds for determinants. The basis for all bounds is an expansion of the determinant of a perturbed diagonal matrix.

Perturbation bounds for $g$-inverses with respect to the unitarily invariant norm

Let complex matrices $A$ and $B$ have the same sizes. Using the singular value decomposition, we characterize the $g$-inverse $B^{(1)}$ of $B$ such that the distance between a given $g$-inverse of $A$ and the set of all $g$-inverses of the matrix $B$ reaches minimum under the unitarily invariant norm. With this result, we derive additive and multiplicative perturbation bounds of the nearest per...

Computing Characteristic Polynomials from Eigenvalues

This paper concerns the computation of the coefficients ck of the characteristic polynomial of a real or complex matrixA. We analyze the forward error in the coefficients ck when they are computed from the eigenvalues of A, as is done by MATLAB’s poly function. In particular, we derive absolute and relative perturbation bounds for elementary symmetric functions, which we use in turn to derive p...

Buckling and vibration analysis of angle -ply symmetric laminated composite plates with fully elastic boundaries

The main focus of this paper is on efficiency analysis of two kinds of approximating functions (characteristic orthogonal polynomials and characteristic beam functions) that have been applied in the Rayleigh-Ritz method to determine the non-dimensional buckling and frequency parameters of an angle ply symmetric laminated composite plate with fully elastic boundaries. It has been observed that o...

Sensitivity and Perturbation analysis of Polynomial Eigenvalue problem

The conference dinner will take place in Café Campus behind the Mathematics Building on the campus of TU Berlin. We discuss a general framework for sensitivity and perturbation analysis of polynomial eigen-value problem. More specifically, we discuss first order variations of simple eigenvalues of matrix polynomials, determine the gradients and present a general definition of condition number o...

Solving singular integral equations by using orthogonal polynomials

In this paper, a special technique is studied by using the orthogonal Chebyshev polynomials to get approximate solutions for singular and hyper-singular integral equations of the first kind. A singular integral equation is converted to a system of algebraic equations based on using special properties of Chebyshev series. The error bounds are also stated for the regular part of approximate solut...
